Accepting Financial Aid

There are steps that must be taken to accept your financial aid. The following section will provide step-by-step instructions on what you will need to do to accept different types of aid you may have been awarded. Only admitted students will be able to accept financial aid awards.

Please select an award type from the dropdown below to view the necessary steps you need to take to accept your award.

PELL

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Sign in with your UTEP user name and password
3. Click on "Financial Aid"
4. Select "My Award Information"
5. Select Award by Aid Year
6. Select the academic year for which you would like to accept your awards (hover to define academic year)
7. Click on the tab labeled "Terms and Conditions"
8. Read the important information
9. If you understand and agree with the information provided, click "Accept"
10. Once this has been done, the Accept Awards offered tab will activate to allow access to view and accept awards that have been offered

Texas Grant

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Sign in with UTEP username and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Select My Award Information
5. Select Award by Aid Year
6. Select award year (award year grant was offered)
7. Click on tab labeled Terms and Conditions
8. Read the important information
9. If you understand and agree to the information click on "Accept"
10. Click on the tab labeled Accept Award offered
11. Find "Texas Grant"
12. Under "Accept Award" drop down menu select "Accept"
13. Click on "Submit Decision"
14. Register for KEYS Workshop

   How to complete an online Keys session

1. Go to mystatus.utep.edu
2. Log in with your user name and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Click on Complete Online Keys
5. Once the Keys session has been completed, an email will be sent to you confirming the completion and a copy of the Certificate of Completion.
6. The Financial Aid office will receive notification of the completion of the online session and a copy of the Certificate of Completion

UTEP Promise

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Sign in with UTEP username and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Select My Award Information
5. Select Award by Aid Year
6. Select award year (award year grant was offered)
7. Click on tab labeled Terms and Conditions
8. Read the important information
9. If you understand and agree to the information click on "Accept"
10. Click on the tab labeled Accept Award offered
11. Find "UTEP Promise"
12. Under "Accept Award" drop down menu select "Accept"
13. Click on "Submit Decision"
14. Register for KEYS Workshop

   How to complete an online Keys session

1. Go to mystatus.utep.edu
2. Log in with your user name and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Click on Complete Online Keys
5. Once the Keys session has been completed, an email will be sent to you confirming the completion and a copy of the Certificate of Completion.
6. The Financial Aid office will receive notification of the completion of the online session and a copy of the Certificate of Completion

TEACH Grant (First Time Recipients)

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Sign in with UTEP username and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Select My Award Information
5. Select Award by Aid Year
6. Select award year (award year grant was offered)
7. Click on tab labeled Terms and Conditions
8. Read the important information
9. If you understand and agree with the information click on "Accept"
10. First time TEACH Grant Recipients must register and attend an in person TEACH Grant Workshop
11. After attending a TEACH Grant workshop, you will need to sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve (ATS) at www.teach-ats.ed.gov

   How to register for a Financial Aid TEACH Grant Workshop

1. Go to University Instructional Workshops Page
2. Select "Register"
3. Sign in with your UTEP Account
4. Click "OK"
5. Select "Financial Aid Training" for Workshop Category
6. Click "Continue"
7. Select "TEACH Grant (For Students)"
8. Read the description and click continue
9. Select a day highlighted in green. Please make sure you will be able to attend on this date
10. Select a time to attend the session under "Workshop Session"
11. Click "Register"
12. A new screen shows an e-mail will be sent to confirm your registration. Please print the confirmation for your records
13. Logout or "Schedule Another Workshop"

TEACH Grant (Renewal Recipients)

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Sign in with UTEP username and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Select My Award Information
5. Select Award by Aid Year
6. Select award year (award year grant was offered)
7. Click on tab labeled Terms and Conditions
8. Read the important information
9. If you understand and agree with the information click on "Accept"
10. Within 4 business days of being awarded you will need to sign the Agreement to Serve and complete the online Subsequent Counseling session by logging into www.teach-ats.ed.gov. This must be completed every academic year.

Direct Student Loans

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Sign in with UTEP username and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Select My Award Information
5. Select Award by Aid Year
6. Select award year (award year grant was offered)
7. Click on tab labeled Terms and Conditions
8. Read the important information
9. If you understand and agree to the information click on "Accept"
10. Click on the tab labeled Accept Award offered
11. Find Subsidized Direct loan (The same will need to be done if accepting an Unsubsidized Direct loan)
12. Under "Accept Award" drop down menu select "Accept"
13. Click on "Submit Decision"

    Complete an entrance counseling session and
          Master Promissory Note (MPN) for a Subsi-
          dized and/or Unsubsidized Direct loans

1. Go to www.studentloans.gov
2. Sign in using your FAFSA log in credentials (FSA ID and Password).
3. Click on Complete Entrance Counseling
4. Enter information requested and complete all modules
5. Click on Complete Master Promissory Note, then select “Subsidized/Unsubsidized MPN”.
6. Enter information requested and complete the entire MPN

Master Promissory Note only needed one time for initial
borrowers. MPN is valid for ten years.

Parent Plus Loans

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Parent go to www.studentloans.gov
2. Parent will need to sign in using their FAFSA log in credentials (Parent FSA ID and Password). If the parent applying for the loan does not have an FSA ID and Password, click “Create an FSA ID” on the page.
3. Click on “Apply for a PLUS loan”.
4. Click on "View What you Need"
5. Gather all required information, click “Complete Plus Request for Parents” and complete application process.
6. If application is approved, complete steps 3 and 4 under Complete a Master Promissory Note in this section.

    Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN)

1. Go to www.studentloans.gov
2. Parent will need to sign in using their FAFSA log in credentials (Parent FSA ID and Password). If the parent applying for the loan does not have an FSA ID and Password, click “Create an FSA ID” on the page.
3. Click on “Complete Master Promissory Note “, then select “PLUS MPN for Parents”.
4. Enter information requested and complete the entire MPN

Graduate Plus Loan

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to www.studentloans.gov
2. Sign in using FAFSA log in credentials (Student FSA ID and Password). If you do not have and FSA ID and Password, click on “Create a FSA ID” on the page.
3. Click on “Apply for a Plus loan”
4. Click on “Complete Plus Request for Graduate/Professional students” and complete application process.
5. Once application is complete and submitted, click on "Complete Entrance Counseling for Graduate/Professional student”.
6. Click on "Complete Master Promissory Note”, then select “PLUS MPN for Graduate/Professional students”

Be On Time Loan (BOT)

   Complete the steps to accept the award

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Click on "Financial Aid"
3. Then "My Award Information"
4. Award By Aid Year
5. Accept the BOT Award offered
6. After September 1st, the loan will be certified with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) by the financial aid office
7. Once the loan is certified the financial aid office will contact the student with instructions to finalize the acceptance process

Work-Study

   Complete the steps to begin the work-study process

1. Go to goldmine.utep.edu
2. Sign in with UTEP username and password
3. Click on Financial Aid
4. Select My Award Information
5. Select Award by Aid Year
6. Select award year (award year grant was offered)
7. Click on tab labeled Terms and Conditions
8. Read the important information
9. If you understand and agree to the information click on "Accept"
10. Register for "Customer Service" Workshop

    How to register for a Customer Service Workshop

1. Go to University Instructional Workshops Page
2. Select "Register"
3. Sign in with your UTEP username and password
4. Click "OK"
5. Select "Customer Service Training" for Workshop Category
6. Click "Continue"
7. Select "Improving Customer Service Training"
8. Read the description and click continue
9. Select the day highlighted in green (the day is not important since the session is online, only for registration purposes)
10. Select the time indicate in the drop down menu in the “Workshop Session” section (the day and time are not important since the session is online, only for registration purposes)
11. Click "Register"
12. Logout
13. The UTEP Human Resources office will send you an email when the online training module is available on your Blackboard account to complete.
